The Grey Wrap Sweater that Will Dominate Your Fall Wardrobe
I think about this sweater really more than a person should. Meet the Morandi. Call it three, four years ago, I met this sweater at one of the rare and blessed MM La Fleur sample sales that pop up in the city from time to time. At a steal of a price, I snapped up the only available color, a sort of dusty blush that is no longer on the market. Indeed, it remains the only dusty blush item I own, but gets an outsize amount of wear, especially given that it’s not a color I’d normally work into my wardrobe.
It’s made great by a few things. The tie belt is thick and a slightly different knit than the sweater. The pockets are deep, and good for shoving a phone or your hands in if you’re racing across the office, or walking the dog, respectively. The dolman sleeves and high cut on the wrap also means that this looks so modern and architectural.
I have loved my strange blushy addition so much that I routinely stalk the site for it to be revived in black. I listlessly search the pre-loved market. I occasionally email to query the lovely stylists and cast a silent vote for it to be brought back. Sadly, none of these efforts have made a black Morandi turn up over the years.
However, MM La Fleur is having a very good sale lately, where I broke down and went with the next best thing. In charcoal grey, it will be the closest I’ll now probably get, given that it doesn’t appear they’re bringing it back and this season though with all of us cozy at home, it certainly would have been the time to do so.
Perhaps the most important part of this announcement, I got the nerve to spend what is in any season, an investible amount on the sweater, by using only the credits I’ve accrued donating other clothing. MM La Fleur and thredUP have a partnership, whereby you can send bags of your gently loved clothing using a free-to-you label, and these donations magically transform into MM La Fleur dollars. Schrute bucks, but make it fashion, if you will.
After six months of being home and tearing through my closets regularly, the charcoal morandi is headed my way without a dollar out of my pocket. Small wins in 2020 people.
